• 7th Grade Math

In this class we will work to improve our mental math and problem solving skills. The students will learn a variety of topics ranging from decimals, fractions, equations, ratios, geometry, graphing and probability. This is an interactive class with a combination of individual and group work. Students will also participate in hands on projects such as creating a map of the room and making tessellations.

    • Topic

      Decimals and Integers

Students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals and integers.  They will also learn how to convert units within the metric system.

      • Topic

        Exponents, Factors, and Fractions

Students will learn how to compute using the correct order of operations.  They will also use prime factorizations to find greatest common factors and least common divisors.  Rational numbers and scientific notation will be studied.

        • Topic

          Operations With Fractions

Students will add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and mixed numbers.  They will convert between units in the customary system.

          • Topic

            Equations and Inequalities

Students will solve one and two step equations and inequalities using properties of algebra.

            • Topic

              Ratios, Rates, and Proportions

Students will solve a variety of problems using ratios and proportions.  Emphasis will be given to similar figures and scale drawings.

              • Topic

Students will convert between fractions, decimals, and percents.  Percent problems will be solved using equations and proportions.

                • Topic

Various topics of geometry will be studied including lines, planes, angles, polygons, congruent figures, and circles.

                  • Topic

Students will calculate area and perimeter of various plane geometric figures.  They will also calculate volume and surface of three dimensional figures.

                    • Topic

                      Patterns and Rules

Patterns and functions will be studied.  Students will also use formulas to calculate simple and compound interest.

                      • Topic

                        Graphing in the Coordinate Plane

Students will plot points in the coordinate plane.  Linear equations will be graphed and the slope of a line will be calculated.  Transformations in the coordinate plane will be diagramed.

                        • Topic

                          Displaying and Analyzing Data

Data will be analyzed using a variety of displays and graphs including line plots, frequency tables, histograms, stem and leaf plots, and scatter plots.

                          • Topic

                            Using Probability

Theoretical and experimental probabilities will be calculated.  Permutations and combinations will also be calculated
